LIFE WITH A TWIST OF… NETWORKING

LIFE WITH A TWIST OF… NETWORKING

We hear around us more and more about how important is networking. And if the purpose of networking is supposed to be making acquaintances, friends, business connections, for me is getting energy from new and inspiring people and their unique stories.

I have been asked a couple of times to facilitate networking sessions and the natural way for me to do that was to put people together in groups and make them bring their contribution through sharing stories and ideas.

On 27th of May I have delivered such a session at The International House on an event organized by Spouse Care for life-science professionals.

45 people went in groups of 5 upon a random drawing of the teams. Their task was to introduce themselves and then discuss for find a cure for a special disease I have appointed them. They had to come in front of the others at the end of the session and pitch for their treatment, explain the use, effects, overdose or side effects.

They had a hard time figuring out a good solution for the diseases I chose, as in fact they were not common illnesses, insufficiencies or affections, they were human flaws. So the teams had to cure indecisiveness, rudeness, selfishness, greediness, intolerance, laziness, stubbornness, jealousy, vanity. We all had a lot of fun not only during group discussions but mainly during the presentations.

For indecisiveness we got an electric bracelet that sends electric impulses every time people cannot make up their mind, for vanity they conceived a special room where people will get locked with others just alike and submitted to the same behavior. For selfishness the cure was giving more, until people will have enough and will start sharing with others. Very idealistic!

What was not idealistic was to hope that people will have fun, get to know each other better and leave the place with big smiles and lots of energy. Plus some chocolate.
